This milestone is the 29th milestone from Nihonbashi along the Tokaido road.
The Hōchiji and Tamaiji milestones together are called the "Fushimi Milestones."
Tamaiji Temple also houses valuable artifacts belonging to Hakuin Zenji, a Rinzai Zen Buddhist monk from the early Edo period who was born in what is now Hara, Numazu City.
The calligraphy of Kinryūzan is also attributed to Hakuin Zenji.
