The Senkan-doi aqueduct is located on the border between Shimizu Town and Mishima City. It is a water aqueduct built across the Sakai River to transport spring water from the Kohama Pond in Rakujuen Garden to Shimizu Town for irrigation. The current Senkan-doi is made of reinforced concrete, but before its collapse in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, it was made of wood, measuring 45.0m in length, 0.45m in depth, 1.8m in width, and 4.5m in height. The reconstructed aqueduct is 42.7m in length, 0.45m in depth, 1.9m in width, and 4.2m in height, roughly the same size as the original. There are several theories about the circumstances surrounding the construction of this aqueduct, but the most common one is that in 1555, when the Imagawa, Takeda, and Hojo clans made peace, Hojo Ujiyasu presented Imagawa Ujizane with a gift for his son-in-law. A long embankment was built from the Kohama Pond in Rakujuen Garden, and the water was sent to the Imagawa territory in Suruga. Regarding the origin of the name, there are several theories: one that the aqueduct was worth 1,000 kan (a unit of currency), another that it irrigated a 1,000 kan worth of land, and yet another that it cost 1,000 kan to build. From the south exit of JR Mishima Station, take the Numazu Hakone Tozan Tokai Bus (bound for Numazu Station via Shindo) and walk 1 minute from the "Senganhi" bus stop.
